Is RSVP a good dating site?

September 8th 2008 05:26
I'm going to try and review a dating site each month or so, depending on results. I figured I'd start with the biggest one RSVP and see what it can do. I'm going to sign up as a free member first just to check it out and I'll let you know how it goes.

In the meantime here is another reader submitted story:

Caroline wrote: Having chatted to him on the internet for a few weeks, I arranged to meet Jamie for the first time at a pub in central London. It was packed with people so we took our drinks outside and sat on the steps of a nearby monument. We were both a little shy at first, but after 45 minutes we were getting on well so decided to move on and find somewhere else to continue our date.

As I went to stand up, I reached for the sweater I had tied around my waist and discovered to my surprise that it was soaking wet. I wondered if perhaps I had spilt my drink on it. I decided to keep schtum as we started walking, meanwhile discreetly checking out what I took to be orange juice on my fingers.... but hang on a minute... OHMYGOD. Totally 100% piss. Vagrancy and incontinence often go hand in hand (?) and it would seem 'somebody' had relieved themselves nearby during our conversation... need I say more?

I considered trying to pull off a cover-up somehow. But just exactly somehow was becoming ever more unfeasible. It wasn't just the sweater, my pants were soaked too and the very thought of of it all made me nauseous with disgust. He too would be smelling me soon if i didn't think of something fast. I considered my options.

a) making a sudden and inexplicable getaway... "sorry, I just have to leave."?
b) flustered but still seemingly unsullied, rushing for the nearest toilet facilities for an emergency clean up?

c) telling him the truth?

Choosing a) still meant that I would have to stand on public transport for up to an hour soaked in hobo/tramp's piss. Choosing b) I sensed would still be inadequate by all standards of hygienic acceptability, and choosing c) was a risk but who knew how he might rise to the challenge?

So I told him. Fortunately he laughed, somewhat hysterically, and since nausea was threatening to overwhelm me I swiftly presented him with the only possible plan - to send him into a nearby store to buy me new pants and underwear (furnished of course with my measurements), which, bless him, he agreed to do. I peered from what I hoped was a safe distance from the nostrils of other shoppers as he held up various styles and shades of pant, and when he'd finished we ducked into a nearby bar where I sealed off the whole toilet area, tore off every last shred, hosed myself down, threw out all the garments that had been in contact and emerged, finally, calm and poised, ready to continue my date at last. There he was waiting for me with a bottle of white wine and a platter of cheeses and a big grin. We made our way through two more bottles, had a drunken snog at the end of the evening and I can't for the life of me remember why, but we never saw each other again!

Till next time readers, and I'll give you all an update on my experiences with RSVP.

Lucy's wisdom

June 7th 2006 07:24
After Lucy’s three month relationship with boyfriend Chad* ended last year she has come to some conclusions about what her life is really all about. Unlike many girls her age it’s not about snagging the hottest guy or attending all the coolest parties. Though unlike older women it’s also not love or career that is behind the steering wheel of Lucy’s existence. “[It’s] my happiness. If I’m not happy I don’t think I’d stay that way very long and I’d try to get to the source of the problem quite quickly. At the moment it’s family and self [that make me happy]. I have no idea what sort of career I’d pursue!”

“I have no idea what sort of career path I’d like to follow at this stage! At the moment I think I’d like to become a solicitor but things aren’t really going according to plan!”
This may be sounding all very real to most of you, as well as the desire to “have more money and more certainty as to what the future holds for me!” But what happens when you venture into the big bad world of solidifying career paths and searching for ‘The One’? How do you know when to make crucial, life-altering moves that may change your life and your values forever?

Lucy's story

June 6th 2006 02:39
Lucy, 21, is a typical Australian girl. “This sounds sad – and I have just realized how boring I am! I am a full-time student (all of 8 hours a week!) at Sydney University doing a Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences with a double major. I work part time in an accountancy practice and I enjoy the beach, shopping and buying clothes (when I have the money), partying and going to see live gigs.”

But Lucy is not alone in thinking her life is boring. She thinks the best aspect of a relationship is “really getting to know somebody” and the worst is “the awkward break up conversations” (girls everywhere cry out in empathy!) Aren’t these two of the most extraordinarily exciting yet dreadfully daunting experiences of almost every girl’s life? How can they possible exist in a boring life? These circumstances alone constitute a life where our fragile mind, body and soul are subjected to matters of the heart – be it skipping beats or wrenching aches. Add this bewilderment to an already perplexed world of intricacies and you have the ingredients for one simple fact - that every girl (and boy) leads a pretty spectacular life!

Calling all Bridget Joneses!

June 5th 2006 02:30
The trick of life is not getting what you want but wanting what you want after you get it” – Katharine Hepburn

Think about your life for a moment. What do you value as the most important entity? It could be friends, career, love, self or a number of less obvious factors. Are you part of a large social circle or do you have a small group of close-knit gal pals? Are you in your dream job or are you still hunting for something more fulfilling? Are you single, attached, in between suitors or on the rebound? And do you count yourself as a life value, or do all the above overshadowed the importance of self-worth and awareness?
